I opened A Star Canine Spa in August 2016 having completed a salon-based apprenticeship and taken early retirement from post 16 teaching. I taught for 21 years, latterly delivering vocational subjects to 16-19 year olds in a sixth form college.
I took a leap of faith opening the spa and making such a change in my life, I have never looked back. Working as I do with force-free techniques, and in my own home, I am able to meet the individual needs of each dog, yet dogs live in human relationships and so I also have the privilege of meeting new people and offering advice and guidance on the care of their dog between grooms.
I have my own dog Maisie who is a cross between a miniature schnauzer and toy poodle, she’s a Schnoodle. She is the worst behaved client I have on the grooming table!
I am constantly humbled by the special relationship I witness, over and over again, between dog and human and how the unconditional love they offer brings such joy into our lives. I am force-free because I choose to be, because our canine companions deserve such respect and because it really, really works.
